Meals on Wheels Volunteer Drivers Needed!               

"Looking for folks who have a valid driver's license, some spare time, and a desire to give something back to the community can contact Rep. Patricia McDonald at 476-8411 or Kimberley Lashua at 456-7448 about the possibility of volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program.  Volunteers won't receive mileage reimbursement, must pas a routine background check and have car insurance."

Healthy Aging is good for all ages” COMMUNITY OF VERMONT ELDERS, (BERLIN) needs a volunteer to help plan the Healthy Aging Fair to be held in the fall of 2009. Volunteer will work with a team, make phone calls, and help coordinate all aspects of this fun and educational event.  

Make the future better by recycling today” RESTORE (BARRE) needs volunteers to help sort, clean, store, organize and promote the reuse of good usable “stuff”.

“A friendly face can provide comfort in stressful times ”  CENTRAL VERMONT HOSPITAL (BERLIN)  needs volunteers to serve as cashiers in the gift shop. Several shifts are available, also subs are needed.

Help talking books speak to those who are visually impaired” MIDSTATE REGIONAL LIBRARY (BERLIN) needs a volunteer to help catalog movies and documentaries in the collection. Computer skills are helpful.

Open the doors to adult literacy” CENTRAL VERMONT ADULT BASIC ED.(BARRE) needs help answering phones and simple office tasks. Flexible and training provided.

Helping kids rise to their full potential in literacy, learning and life” READING BUDDIES PROGRAM (WASH. COUNTY) needs volunteers to read to children in local schools and preschools. Training provided.

Be part of a win-win solution”   HOME SHARE OF CENTRAL VERMONT (BARRE) needs volunteers to interview home owners and home-seekers. This work helps older people stay independent.”

 “It only takes minutes  …. results  last a lifetime”  WASHINGTON COUNTY COURT (BARRE) needs volunteers to serve as guardians-ad-litem, advocating for the rights of children in court hearings.

 “ Home, heart, and love…where would WE be without them?”  GOOD SAMARITAN HAVEN (BARRE) needs volunteers to serve as overnight monitors for the shelter, checking in guests, conversation etc.

Lend them your experience…help a new mom”   GOOD BEGINNINGS (WASH. CTY) needs visitors  to new Moms and babies in their homes, assisting families with information and support. Training is provided.

Let your light shine and brighten up a life”  MAYO HEALTHCARE INC ( NORTHFIELD) needs volunteer readers, and friendly visitors. Volunteers who have a musical talent to share are invited to entertain residents

Books bring us together…meet your neighbors at the library”  BROWN PUBLIC LIBRARY (NORTHFIELD)needs library assistants to help shelve books, and assist with circulation, and special events.

Act up and educate”   SAVVY SENIORS  theater troupe needs volunteer actors and actresses to help perform informal skits at senior centers and other community meetings. All training is provided.

Awarm meal brings a warm smile”  MONTPELIER HOME DELIVERY PROGRAM needs volunteer drivers for the Montpelier area. A small stipend is available. 

Tutor a little…gain a lot”    CENTRAL VT. ADULT BASIC ED (WASH. CTY)  needs volunteer tutors to work with adults on basic literacy.Training is provided.

Make history come alive for today and tomorrow”  VT HISTORICAL SOCIETY (MONTPELIER) needs volunteer greeters  to help visitors at the Montpelier museum. Volunteers greet visitors, introduce the exhibits, and staff the bookstore. BARRE location needs help at the front desk and assistance with office tasks.

Time spent with youth  can bring big rewards”   HEDDING METHODIST CHURCH (BARRE) needs a volunteer youth mentor to assist in the Teen Center, Thursday and/or Monday afternoons.

Help visitors see why we Lovermont”  VT STATEHOUSE (MONTPELIER) needs volunteer gift shop assistants  and tour guides. Volunteers greet visitors and give helpful information.  All training provided.

 “Your talents and time can make their day” WOODRIDGE NURSING HOME (BERLIN) needs readers  and friendly visitors. Musicians are also needed to provide entertainment for the residents.

Local  food keeps the local economy healthy” L.A.C.E.(local agricultural community exchange) (BARRE) needs a story time reader, and children’s activity leaders. Activities such as crafts, puppet shows or music.

Stay healthy longer…volunteer” MONTPELIER SENIOR CENTER needs greeters to welcome visitors to the center , help with community meals and activities.  Musicians needed for Tuesday and Thursday bands.

Keep art beating in the heart of Montpelier”  WOOD ART GALLERY(MONTPELIER) needs docents to meet and greet visitors to its Vermont College Campus art gallery, and office assistance.

 “A Little Village with a big heart…be part of a community” ADAMANT COOPERATIVE (CALAIS) needs a  volunteer to provide help with bookkeeping.

Human nurture is needed to protect mother nature” NATURE CONSERVANCY(MONTPELIER)needs volunteers to work on field projects and office assistance at its Montpelier office.

 “Be a friend, share,  and make  a difference” WASHINGTON COUNTY MENTAL HEALTH needs people who would like to offer friendship and activities to  individuals with mental illness, as part of the Gather Program.

“Your talents plus time = smiles”  VERMONT STATE HOSPITAL(WATERBURY) needs activities helpers, especially in the evenings to present music, help with sing alongs, art activities, and a new bookcart program.

 “Be a friendly visitor… get a friend in return”   CENTRAL VERMONT COUNCIL ON AGING needs friendly visitors to visit elders in their homes, and help provide transportation to  appointments.

Healthy food makes a healthy community”  FOODWORKS AT TWO RIVERS CENTER needs volunteers to help distribute fresh produce to community programs. Volunteers pack boxes into vehicles,  and deliver food.

“Knit, crochet and quilt…crafts say love” VARIOUS AGENCIES need quilts for children, hats for cancer patients, outfits for premature babies, sweaters for teddy bears and afghans for the homeless shelter.

Show them the world of reading” KELLOGG HUBBARD LIBRARY (MONTPELIER) needs outreach volunteers to bring books to preschools, help children select books and read a story.

“A Warm Meal warms the heart”  THE GALLEY (BARRE) Senior meal site needs help for breakfast and cleanup after lunch.

Help the Governor’s Office serve Vermont”  PAVILLION OFFICE BUILDING (MONTPELIER) needs office assistance, help with tasks such as filing and sorting.

“Smooth the way for tax season” AARP VERMONT needs tax aides. No prior experience in tax preparation is necessary and all training is provided.

Help a child…invest in the future”  RIVER ROCK SCHOOL (MONTPELIER) needs a volunteer to help with activities and  read one to one with a child.

“Talking book players bring the print alive” MID-STATE REGIONAL LIBRARY needs volunteers to clean talking book players.

Make their ride a little smoother”  AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY needs a volunteer to serve as a transportation coordinator for their Road to Recovery Program. Duties include supervision and scheduling of volunteer drivers who transport cancer patients to appointments. Drivers are also needed, mileage reimbursed. 

“Keep art history alive for the future”  VERMONT COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS (MONTPELIER) needs a volunteer receptionist for the achive room, greeting visitors and helping with assorted office tasks.

“Help the quality of life for those with mental illness” NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS OF VERMONT needs volunteers to help with mailings, event planning and writing articles for the newsletter.

“Use your gift with numbers to help reduce the numbers of those in poverty” CENTRAL VERMONT COMMUNITY ACTION COUNCIL needs a volunteer who likes to work with numbers to help in their office preparing for an audit.

Reach out to kids through sports”  U-32 JR SR HIGH SCHOOL’S ATHLETICS (E.MONT) needs volunteers at sporting events to videotape, keep stats, and work the concession stand. Training provided.

 RSVP and the Volunteer Center of Central Vermont and the Northeast Kingdom is an invitation to serve.  Sponsored by the Central Vermont Council on Aging it is a national program designed to provide opportunities for persons of any age who continue to remain actively involved in the life of their community.  A member agency of Lamoille County and the Green Mountain United Way the  aim is to develop specific volunteer opportunities that utilize the particular skills and interests of each individual volunteer, at the same time keeping an eye to what needs to get done in the community. Offices in Barre, Lyndonville, Morrisville and Newport .
